Helping Students Become Moral Voters

By Laura Kizior

Why is it so important to view the elections through a pro-life lens?

As pro-lifers, we believe that the right to life is paramount to all other rights. Unless you have the right to life, all other rights are meaningless. We all know you cannot advocate for disability rights if you believe that parents have the choice to murder their disabled children before they are born. Likewise, you cannot kill a child to save him from poverty. It sounds ludicrous, but there are people who would argue that you should.

Fostering the culture of life in our nation is more than just electing pro-life politicians. As this election season is proving, our world needs more than moral leaders. Our country needs moral citizens driven by their moral consciences, who seek to live out God’s laws before the laws of men.

Students need encouragement to use their voices as citizens. But we’re talking about something more important here: their souls. High school students are too young to vote, but they are not too young to start developing their moral consciences so that they can make moral choices at the polling place in just a few years.

Just in time for the election, we have released a new e-lesson download entitled Pro-Life Citizenship for high school students. First, the lesson focuses on helping students understand the importance of forming their moral consciences in order to make the best decisions at the voting polls. Then, students are inspired by the wisdom of pro-life president Ronald Reagan and his call for all citizens to work together to end abortion and avoid the error of relying solely on government to fix problems in society.

This timely lesson for high school students addresses a pro-lifer’s role in politics and examines how we, as Catholics, must form our consciences according to God’s law. This lesson can be adapted and used with students as young as 7th grade.

Pro-Life Citizenship is available NOW for only $3.99 during the rest of Respect Life Month.
